Het behoort tot de klasse van tryptamine chemicali\u00ebn. EPT is een relatief nieuw en relatief obscuur tryptamine. In feite is de oorspronkelijke synthesedatum onbekend voor EPT. Het is echter sinds 2016 te koop op de onderzoeksmarkt. De onderzoeksresultaten van EPT laboratoriumexperimenten worden meestal beschreven als minder intens dan die van andere tryptamines, zoals DMT, DET en DPT.
